Tea tree oil will help you fight parasites

Nowadays, there are many types of natural products to improve various discomforts, in  addition to helping with body and home hygiene. Tea tree oil is one of the latest innovations in the fight against parasites, especially in dogs.

How is tea tree oil extracted?

It is a colorless oil obtained by distilling the leaves of a tree known as the “tea tree”. This is possible due to a method used and known since antiquity: steam distillation.

This  distillation technique is what manages to extract the purest essence from the leaves. Thus, with a ton of leaves, approximately 10 liters of oil can be obtained.

Among the tea tree oil varieties,  the Melaleuca alternifolia species  is the only one with enormous properties, both for humans and for our pets.

The properties of tea tree oil

One of the main characteristics  of tea tree oil is its antiseptic properties. It is a great bactericide, fungicide, antiviral, healing, balm, deodorant, among other things. For this reason, this oil is a great ally in combating parasites and bacteria.

As it is a 100% natural product, it has no side effects, such as skin allergies, itching, among other things. However,  if after using it the animal starts to scratch excessively, the ideal is to take it immediately to the vet.

The healing properties of tea tree oil in pets are indicated in the treatment of skin irritations. It is also an excellent ally in combating drug allergies and environmental allergies.

Infected wounds and subcutaneous lesions can also be treated with topical solutions made from manuka honey. It is obtained from the tea tree.

Also,  tea tree oil is very effective against fleas and other parasites. As soon as the parasites notice the presence of this oil in the animal, they will immediately flee. Therefore, it is recommended to pass the oil outside the house, to prevent it from becoming infested with fleas.

Tea tree oil is an essential medicine in every first aid kit. Remember that pets can always, for one reason or another, have some kind of parasite.

The same is true for many other products. It is advisable to avoid contact with eyes.

tea tree oil lotion

The product can be purchased at pharmacies, health food stores and some cosmetic stores.

If you can’t find any place that sells the lotion, you can also  make at home an effective product for your pet,  which will prevent all the diseases that bacteria and parasites cause.

To make this lotion, you need to mix the same amount of 96º alcohol along with distilled water and tea tree oil.

The most suitable preparation for the lotion is inside a spray bottle, to spray it directly on the animal. You must apply it carefully, so that it does not fall into the pet’s eyes.

At the time of application, spray the entire length of your pet’s fur and leave it outside for at least 15 minutes. Cleaning the pet’s sleeping area can be done while the tea tree oil flea treatment is drying.

Even though it is a very effective product, it  may be necessary to use the spray for several days until all the fleas disappear.

Tea tree oil and consulting a veterinarian

In anti-flea treatments, it is advisable that pet owners consult their veterinarians for advice on which products to use. They will prescribe based on your pet’s species, age, size and individual medical history.

Also, it  is very important to read the label first and follow the product instructions. With this, you will be able to avoid some complicated situations and unexpected surprises.

Research has shown that tea tree oil is safe and effective  in dogs and cats only if it is properly diluted, that is, diluted in large amounts of water.

The recommended proportion is 0.1 to 1 percent for its topical use. Oral application is not safe in pets.
