7 Things Cats Hate

7 things cats hate

Self-centered, disinterested, misunderstood, presumably a lot of bad things about cats. However, many of the attitudes are due to what we do or we expose them to things and situations that are very unpleasant for them. So, to avoid misunderstandings, we’ve pointed out 7 things cats hate :

1. The water

Well, it doesn’t have to be so literal. Cats, in reality, do not hate water, otherwise they would not drink water. What cats hate is getting wet. This usual behavior has several explanations:

– The first is rooted in the origin of cats. They come from desert areas, where they had very limited and sporadic contact with the liquid, so originally they didn’t have much experience with water.

This may seem to make sense and is demonstrated by the affinity of felines that live in areas where water is plentiful, for example tigers, who spend much of their day sunk in swamps and one of their favorite activities is swimming.

Some cat breeds that are much less reluctant to contact water, for example, is the fishing cat, which can also dive in search of prey, although they usually use their paws.

Also, many owners have used their cats to water. So, the aversion a cat feels will depend on how it has been exposed to the liquid.

– Another explanation proposes that it is an instinctive reaction to prevent disease. The respiratory system of cats is extremely delicate and being wet can pose a serious health risk, especially when they are in a wild state.

2. Don’t pay attention to him

Cat characteristics

Cats are very independent, but when they claim our attention, they want it immediately.

In general, our cat will let us know when he is hungry, when he wants to be petted or when he wants us to do something for him (open a door, go down something he cannot reach…).

So if you’re not pleased quickly, it will start meowing steadily, it will surround you and, in some cases, it may even bite.

3. Certain smells

Like dogs, cats have a highly developed but not as sophisticated sense of smell as dogs. So some scents that seem pleasant to us are simply repulsive to them.

This turns out to be very beneficial for us in training times, because it’s a good way to dissuade them, especially when we don’t want them to play with the plants or lie in our beds.

Some of these smells are: citrus, garlic, the smell of tea or coffee leaves, absinthe, citronella and tobacco.

4. The smoke

This is not unique to cats, as most animals will instinctively flee from the smoke. With evolution, they developed an alarm system that makes them stand back to avoid being inhaled or burned.

Smoke means the presence of fire and this can be very dangerous, so nature has developed a specialization for them to run away from it.

5. Touching them to excess

Cats don’t like their owners petting them all the time.  It’s true that there are breeds like Siamese cats, which are very close to their owners, but in general, pussies don’t like constant contact.

Partly because they use physical contact as a form of dominance, so they’ll only let you touch him when he wants to and for as long as he wants to.

6. The dogs

Do cats hate dogs?

It’s not true that pussies hate dogs. As both are predators, they tend to compete for food and territory. Not to mention that, in a wild environment, cats would be part of the dogs’ diet.

However, a properly socialized cat will have no inconvenience to be surrounded by dogs.

7. Rattling noises

Sounds such as the shofar, loud music, screaming or shrill sounds can cause pathologies such as stress, nervousness and anxiety in cats.

This is because cats have a very powerful auditory sense and are alert to everything that happens around them.

Because they are very territorial, they understand a loud sound, especially if it suddenly appears as an unknown threat within their territory.

The best thing for this is to expose the cats, from an early age, to noisy environments, although it is not easy, little by little they will get used to the noise being part of their daily lives.
